Before the first appointment
If you have further questions after reading this website, please get in touch!
Before booking your first appointment we will ask you to provide basic information and answer some brief questions about your concerns. This ensures we are the best fit for your needs.
If you wish to claim a medicare rebate for the sessions don’t forget to see your GP for a Mental Health Treatment Plan referral before the first appointment (see FAQs).
The first appointment
It is normal to feel uncertain before your first appointment. Be assured that Sally is welcoming, non-judgemental and compassionate in working with you towards change.
Your first session will involve a detailed assessment of your concerns, strengths, current life circumstances, goals and relevant history. This ensures that therapy can be individually tailored to you for the most efficient and effective results. You will also be able to ask any questions you have.
If time permits we will discuss a treatment plan, which we will develop in collaboration to ensure it meets your goals.
Ongoing
After the first appointment you will decide with Sally the best frequency of sessions to suit your goals, schedule and financial situation. Therapy typically begins with weekly or fortnightly sessions that are spaced out as you begin to see improvements.
The number of sessions required varies greatly and depends on numerous factors. Many people feel benefit after just a few sessions. Other people feel benefit from longer term therapy. Some people attend several courses of sessions over their life, taking breaks in between to practice the skills and strategies they have learned. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. For this reason, the quantity and frequency of sessions will be reviewed collaboratively between you and Sally as the therapy progresses.
